The biggest NBA free agent has made his “decision,” yesterday the most coveted NHL free agent made his “decision.” Now we’re all waiting to see what Brett Favre will do next season. For the third straight season the attention-seeking quarterback is undecided if he will play this season or retire again. Most people are sick of hearing Favre tease everyone with his “indecision.” Now even Brett Favre’s own agent has grown tired of the star’s indecisiveness. Favre’s agent Bus Cook took his client to task in a recent article in Men’s Journal.
Cook angrily rants about Favre contacting ESPN’s Ed Werner to tell him that he’ll need ankle surgery in order to play in 2010:
“Now why did he do that.” Goddammit, why does he have to be such a goddamned drama queen? Play, don’t play, goddamn, people are getting sick of it. I’m getting sick of it!…You got problems with surgery, talk to your wife. Why talk to goddamned Ed Werder?”
I don’t know much about the typical relationship between stars and their agents, but I have seen a couple episodes of Entourage, so I think that qualifies me as an expert. Aren’t agents supposed to help their clients and even kiss their ass at times? Kudos to Bus Cook for speaking his mind and being honest, but I don’t think that will bode well for him in the future. I would imagine that future sports stars will say, “Hey isn’t this agent the one that worked for Favre and trashed him in the press? Why would I want to give him 10% of my paycheck?”
Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress is in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to beg Favre to come back and quarterback his team this season. Asked about his reasons for the trip, Childress replied “You can fill in the blanks.”
The Vikings training camp starts on July 30, but as always no decision is expected that early. Last season, Favre decided to join the Vikings in mid-August. He was traded to the New York Jets the year before in August.
